O Toronto Star comemora a decisão do parlamento canadense de dizer: "não à guerra". O texto é um dos mais apaixonados que eu li hj. Vou colocar alguns trechos, mas vale ler inteiro.
"Our diplomats worked furiously to broker a 'Canadian compromise' to rally the Security Council behind a common effort to disarm Saddam's regime. We owed the Americans that much, after 9/11. And it is what we expect of our government."
"When it becomes a tool used by a powerful nation to force its will upon a weaker one, we are stumbling down a dark path into anarchy."
"This war is morally wrong, ill timed and of dubious legality."
"Yet Bush will not be denied the regime change he wants. And the Republican hawks around him will not be denied their chance to assert that America not only dominates the world, but can refashion it at will, at no great cost. They are tragically mistaken. But they are implacable.
And we want no part in it."
O jornal canadense traz ainda um artigo da jornalista Trudy Rubin com várias coisas importantes a serem observadas assim que a invasão começar e quando o W. conseguir dominar o Iraque, como por exemplo:
"Watch to see whether Turkish troops who aren't under U.S. command pour over the border into northern Iraq, in an effort to repress Kurdish separatism that might inspire their own Kurds. If the Turks stay home, it means U.S. officials have convinced them Iraqi Kurds won't declare independence or take over the oil-rich city of Kirkuk. This is crucial to prevent American soldiers from getting caught between Turks and Kurds." Vale ler este tb.
